Doc Brown’s Big Plan

Writing by Spencer on Friday, 5 of November , 2010 at 10:23 am

So here it is, the completed print!  Today, November 5th, is the day that good old Doc Brown slipped on the toilet seat, hit his head, and invented the Flux Capacitor.  That little invention lead to the creation of the time machine that sent Marty McFly back to 1955.  As part of the “We’re Going Back” event, I have created the print below.  I’ve decided that it will be limited to 121 prints at $30/print.

Here is a quick preview of an new illustration that I’ll be unveiling as part of the Back to the Future 25th Anniversary Celebration.  Starting Friday November the 5th, you can go back in time and revisit the week that Marty McFly spent in 1955.  The event will be touring around to shooting locations and is even going to re-create the Enchantment Under the Sea dance at the actual location from the film!  Head over to the event site to get more information.

I’m NOT in the art show at Celebration V

Writing by Spencer on Thursday, 17 of June , 2010 at 10:16 am

I am taking a bit of a leap, but here it goes.  I have been invited to create my third officially licensed Lucasfilm art print.  It will be available at the Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando Florida.  The convention will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back August the 12th-15.  This print will be 12″ x 24″ matching my previous prints and will thematically fit to complete the series.

Now that I’ve said that I’ve been invited to the show I have to explain what I mean by the title of this post.  I have decided to move out of the art show and take up a booth space at the convention.  I will be at a corner booth across from the Jedi Stage next to Matt BuschThe Art of Ralph McQuarrieTsuneo SandaTom Hodges and right down the way from LEGO!  I’m not sure where they will all be set up, but my friends Jason Palmer,  Monte Moore, and Dave Dorman will be also be out on the exhibitors floor.  (I hope I haven’t missed anyone).  You can see a fantastic interactive map from the Star Wars Celebration site.

I currently have 2 extra exhibitors badges for the show and some fabulous hotel arrangements.  If you are interested in working at my booth or would like to sponsor me please use the contact button on my website to send me a message. I would hate to see the badges go unused.

Check out that Fancy Stamp!

Writing by Spencer on Wednesday, 12 of May , 2010 at 10:57 am

Here’s a quick commission that I did on the collectable sketch cards from last years Fan Days III convention in Texas.  This gave me an excuse to use some of the Stamps that I designed for Zazzle.

Awwwww, Oola & Salacious

Writing by Spencer on Tuesday, 4 of May , 2010 at 3:19 pm

Here’s a peak at the process that I went through in the creation of this new commissioned image of Oola the dancer from Jabba’s palace and Salacious Crumb. I started out with some quick sketches of the pose.

oola-sketch

When I FINALLY got a pose I felt was decent, I enlarged it to make draw in the details. Once the pencil sketch was done I used a light table to make an nice clean ink drawing.

I scanned the ink drawing into the computer and then used illustrator to convert the bitmap lines to vector lines and then I colored it in Flash. I had done some other illustrations of Jabba’s dancers, so I re-used one of the backgrounds for this illustration.

This was an experiment in doing a digital commission. You can order your own commissioned art in my store, or buy some of my licensed Star Wars art from Zazzle.

Throw me the IDOL!

Writing by Spencer on Thursday, 15 of April , 2010 at 3:53 pm

Here’s a new shadow box commission of Indiana Jones racing through the Mayan Temple with the golden fertility idol.  I thought that I would show a bit about the process of creating this shadow box.  I started by making these quick sketches to get the angle of the temple hallway and the general pose for Indy.

Once I had the pose in mind I sketched a more detailed version of Indy and then inked it on a light box.

After it was all inked I colored it with Prismacolor markers and  cut it out.  Then I drew, colored and cut out all the pieces for the background images.  Each image is put onto a piece of Plexiglass and then into the shadow box.  You can see the final product in the flash file below and rotate it around.  You can also order your own commission in the store.

Easter Jaxxon

Writing by Spencer on Wednesday, 31 of March , 2010 at 1:22 pm

Here’s a re-post from last Easter. Sorry I didn’t get to make a new Easter Jaxxon illustration this year.

Jaxxon was created for use in Marvel Star Wars’ Star Wars 8: Eight for Aduba-3. This big bunny was created in homage to Warner Brothers cartoon star Bugs Bunny who often addressed strangers with the generic nickname “Jackson” in his 1940s cartoons. I thought it would be funny to use Jaxxon for an Easter card.
