Cad Bane is ALIVE!

Writing by Spencer on Monday, 5 of October , 2009 at 11:21 pm

So last Friday was the premiere of season 2 of Star Wars:Clone Wars.  The episode centered around last season’s newest character, a bounty hunter by the name of Cad Bane.  So in the two episodes that they showed on Friday we saw what a tough guy that Bane is.  He breaks into the Jedi Temple, steals from the vault, kills a Jedi, stands up to Anakin then captures Ahsoka.  Then when he’s trying to get off the ship two clone troopers get the drop on him and take him out.  WHAT!?!!?!  I don’t think so.  In the shot we see Bane fall off the upper balcony to his death, then one of the injured Clone Troopers jumps on the boarding platform to join the rest of the evacuees.  I’m pretty sure that Lucas learned his lesson from the less than stellar death scene of Boba Fett and what we really saw was Bane dressed as a Clone to sneak off the ship.  Hmmmm, he’s got those tubes on his face, I wonder if they could fit under the Clone helmet?  Here’s the trailer for Season 2.

Shadow Box Commission

Writing by Spencer on Tuesday, 29 of September , 2009 at 11:07 pm

For some time now I’ve been looking for a way to better display the shadow boxes that I’ve been making.  The photos I’ve been taking makes them look too flat.  After experimenting with various lighting rigs and backgrounds etc. I’ve shot a series of photos and put them in flash so that you can control the image.  Go ahead and check out the animation and grab the scrub bar move it around.  This is better than the photos, but still not as good as seeing it in person.

The Han Solo Adventures

Writing by Spencer on Monday, 7 of September , 2009 at 2:36 pm

If you weren’t sure, I’d like to come right on out and say I’m a Star Wars fan.  That being said, my fandom pales in comparison to Stacy Davidson.  You see, Stacy is a Super fan and a collector of home game systems and arcade machines. Some of his favorite games of all time include Space Quest III and IV, King’s Quest VI, Fate of Atlantis, Full Throttle and The Dig.  He took his love of adventure titles like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and combined it with his love of Star Wars to make his own game.

He developed the game using the Adventure Game Studio software and of course HOURS and DAYS and WEEKS of his own time and he’s giving it away. According to his progress page, he is currently about 20% done with the game, but Stacy has announced on today that the game is fully playable through the first major section. This section encompasses a hand full of screens, characters and puzzles.  You can follow his progress at his website.

I personally enjoyed this YouTube video of the game play because it reminded me of this print that I made….

Lego Day Post 02: Lego Universe

Writing by Spencer on Friday, 28 of August , 2009 at 9:41 am

Lego Universe is a massive multiplayer online game where you can use bricks to collaboratively build your world. The adventures go through all the Lego themes like Space and City themes, as well as Pirates and Ninjas.  Here’s a trailer for the game.

Here is a video by Lego Universe developer NetDevil. After creating the game tools, the game is now in the world design stage, where advanced Lego users are helping NetDevil to create the actual worlds.

SDCC ‘09: I Know

Writing by Spencer on Tuesday, 21 of July , 2009 at 8:41 pm

I am super pleased to announce that I have been approved to make a new Star Wars print!  It was this time last year that I was leaving Celebration Japan and heading to the San Diego Comic-Con.  Another big change for me is that last year was my first time in Artist Alley at SDCC and this year I’ll be in a booth on the exhibit floor as a guest of Wildstar/Tempest at booth #4613.  Things are looking good!

When I went to Japan I made 250 of my “Sorry About the Mess” prints and sold them for $55.00.  For this new print titled, “I Know”, I will only be making 100 prints.  With that decrease in volume, the price of the print has increased to $100.00.  I will have a work print on display at my booth and the prints will be available to pre-buy at the Acme Archives booth as well as online (the link isn’t up yet).  So here’s the print.

Here’s a photo of the print.

and of course, a video that I made to promote it.

SDCC ‘09: Post Cards

Writing by Spencer on Monday, 20 of July , 2009 at 2:12 pm

Wow! The convention starts on Wednesday! Here are some post cards that I’ll have at my table. This first card is a re-print of the card that I made last year to take to Celebration Japan. The next card is a promotional card for a fan site that I’ll be creating new character illustrations for. The last card is the super sized 5.5×8.5 postcard promotion for my new project s.a.m.M13. (this one’s SO awesome I might have to charge for it!)

Super Obama

Those guys at JibJab have really come a long way with their animation styles.  I thought this was a pretty good cartoon, but “This Land” is still the best.
