I got an email from a member of the rebelscum message boards the other day. It turns out that he is a Marine getting ready to head out to Afghanistan and he’s really been enjoying the nose art I’ve been creating. So here’s a request from him for some nose art to leave with his daughter while he’s on duty. Before I colored the inked drawing with markers, I scanned it so I could digitally color it and put it on the nose of the gun ship.

Mara Jade is a character in the Expanded Star Wars Universe that never appeared on screen in the movies. Her story comes from the books and comics. Early on in her life, she an assassin know as the Emperor’s Hand and carried out the Emperor’s bidding. After Palpatine’s death, she received his last command, which was to kill Luke Skywalker. She was sent to infiltrate Jabba’s Palace on Tatooine, disguised as the dancing girl Arica, in order to await Skywalker. While waiting for Luke Skywalker, Jade witnessed C-3PO and R2-D2’s arrival and saw Luke kill the rancor. She attempted to follow the crowd out to the sail barge but Jabba was suspicious of her and told her to leave and never come back.
This scene shows what could have been a brief meeting as Luke was cuffed and sent to the skiff barge and Mara was escorted out of the palace.

I took the image from the NoseArt that I made yesterday and created a poster. I thought it would be fun to adjust the character’s skin tone to mix things up a bit.

One of the things that I really enjoy about the new Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show is classic feel. The original Star Wars movie is based off of the cliff hanger serials that George Lucas watched as a kid. So it makes sense that these new cartoons open up with a movie reel voice over prompting us with all the pertinent information from previous episodes. That’s why I was so excited to see that the WWII era has these shows. One of the things that I got most excited about was the way that some of the vehicles have been decorated with nose art like some of the old bombers. I’ve decided to try and put together a series of my own Star Wars nose art images. Here’s one of the first ones.

Here it is. The Third and final print for the art book, and this one’s the BIG one. In this image we have the exiled Prospero and his daughter Miranda who have taken control of the island and it’s native inhabitants through magic. You can see the cowering native Caliban and in the background the ship that was sunk by the magic called upon in the play the Tempest. The Beatles song is “Do you want to know a Secret”.
*note* A Tempest is a killer wind, like a toxic gas
