Robotech:The Movie

Writing by Spencer on Tuesday, 24 of June , 2008 at 8:16 am

It would appear that everyone who grew up with me is now in control of the entertainment world.  Robotech was one of my favorite cartoons.  Personally, I enjoy the memories I have of the cartoon MORE than the real cartoon.  I’m not one to go out and buy the boxset of these cartoons because they don’t seem to live up to my memories.  I think that’s the main reason why these properties keep getting remade.

Tobey Maguire is supposedly producing a Robotech movie based on the popular 80’s animated series.  Rumor is that Lawrence Kasdan (who wrote the screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back, and then went on to write Raiders of the Lost Ark) has been brought on to rewrite the script on Robotech.

The Robots are coming

Writing by Spencer on Monday, 23 of June , 2008 at 2:20 pm

Here’s a little clip all about the wonderful world of Robots in the new movie Wall-e.

Here are some great promotional posters for the movie.  When Pixar first hit the scene I was unimpressed by the fact that yet ANOTHER company was going to take the animation short-cut and make a 3D animated movie.  Then I saw what they were doing.  These guys are masters of the crafts.  They draw, they sculpt, they illustrate and animate.  I’m always super impressed to see the art that goes into the making of these wonderful stories.

McDonald’s Line Rider

Writing by Spencer on Monday, 23 of June , 2008 at 10:34 am

Last weekend I saw a commercial that made me laugh out loud while pointing at the screen.  A McDonald’s commercial.  Wow, who’d of thunk?  So there’s a strange merging of social spheres.  McDonald’s is one of the big power house corporations.  They spend a TON of money every year on their marketing and when they work so hard at marketing, it almost feels like, well, marketing.

On the flip side is the idea of Viral Marketing.  User generated content that is so good, the viewer will want to pass it on and tell all their friends about it.  So here’s the merging of the social spheres.  Super corp. McDonald’s has used Super fun online games to advertise thier products.

Several years ago a complete work stoppage occured upon the discovery of Line Rider.  In this online game you would use your mouse and draw a sleding slope.  Press the play button and the little guy would drop onto the slope on his tobogin and go for the ride of his LIFE!  With practice the courses were made more and more difficult and then the best ones started to show up on YouTube.  It was quite the craze.

I had completely forgotton about Line Rider until I saw the following commercial.

and here’s a longer version of it.

Go here to try it for yourself, but be warned, you may become addicted!!!

KITT!!! How do I get to…?

Writing by Spencer on Friday, 20 of June , 2008 at 8:53 pm

The technology that I grew up watching on TV is finally here!

The Knight Rider-themed GPS unit has voice prompts recorded by the one-and-only William Daniels, the original voice of KITT, and asks cordially “Hello Michael, where do you want to go today?” when powered up. The LCD display is also flanked by a series of red LEDs reminiscent of KITT’s nose-mounted lights.

Up next, where’s my jetpack?

Building a Clone Army

Writing by Spencer on Friday, 20 of June , 2008 at 8:12 am

I have always wondered about what it took to prepare a clone army.  I’m also very interested in learning how things are made.  Two birds, one video.  :D

I saw this on Gizmodo.  Head over to their site to see a video of the production process.  GO!!

Clone HSM on theForce.net

Writing by Spencer on Thursday, 19 of June , 2008 at 2:51 pm

I sent off an email to Dustin Roberts of theForce.net to tell him about my Clone High School Musical cartoon.  He put up a link to it on the site and then wrote the following;

“Here’s a funny video clip from Spencer B.

He mentioned in his email he made this for the fan film awards but it was rejected because he used the song from High School Musical.

I’m not sure what’s worse, the fact that he got rejected or the fact that he has seen the High School Musical, and decided to combine it with Star Wars! Ha! Thank you! I’ll be here all week….

The animation is pretty good though, check it out for yourself, just click the video clip below to watch!”

Thanks for the post Dustin, and um I only saw the movie because my little girls wanted to, yeah, that’s right!  :D

The Gallery in now open

Writing by Spencer on Thursday, 19 of June , 2008 at 2:33 pm

I have put together a little gallery of some of my sketch card work.  You can find it on the right side of the screen under the Blogs of Interest.

I got into drawing sketch cards because I wanted to improve my drawing ability.  I’ve heard that everybody has about 1000 bad drawings in them that they’ve got to work through before you find your style.  I know that I’ve got some bad ones to still get out of my system!

I put the oldest card set on the bottom, and to be honest, there are some BAD cards in the Lord of the Rings set.  It’s a little embarassing to have the cards posted, but I want to show my improvement.  I’m so happy that they were running short on that Lord of the Rings set because it gave me the opportunity to do 50 more cards.  You can totally see the difference between those 2 sets.  When I get the approval, I’m going to post EVERY SINGLE CARD I did for the Clone Wars set.  I’m pretty happy with them.
