Tesla’s Wireless Power

Nikola Tesla’s early work pioneered modern electrical engineering.  He is best  known for many revolutionary contributions in the field of electricity and magnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

In 1899 Telsa had a major breakthrough when he transmitted 100 million volts of high-frequency electric power wirelessly over a distance of 26 miles at which he lit up a bank of 200 light bulbs and ran one electric motor!  He did this with a souped up version of his Tesla coil.

A Tesla coil is a special transformer that can take the 110 volt electricity from your house and convert it rapidly to a great deal of high-voltage, high-frequency, low-amperage power.  This big breakthrough was in 1899.  I’m a little afraid of getting fried when ever I think about these Telsa Coils shooting electricity into the air.  It just dosen’t seem all that safe to me.  Maybe that’s why it’s taken so long to develop similar technology.

Fulton Innovation has released a video showing how they are working to make wireless power possible in the future.  Now if they would start working on my jetpack!!  😀
