I’m working out my idea for my Celebration Japan sketch. I sent it in to Lucasfilm to get feedback on it. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a big secret or not. I’m really excited about this first sketch.
*UPDATE*
Below is the image that I sent for feedback, and this is what I heard from them, “…everything looks good. Proceed! Move along, move along.” I can imagine myself working at Lucasfilm and quoting Star Wars all day. sigh….
note that the bartender, hammerhead, and snaggletooth are placeholder images that I grabbed off the web and will be re-creating in my own style for the final print.

In the spirit of improving my sketches, I decided to bring my sketchbook with me to my kids swim team practice. Here’s what I came up with. I roughed in the character with a blue col-erase pencil, and then used ball-point pen to outline it.

From ImprovEverywhere, 16 agents create a spontaneous musical in a food court in a Los Angeles mall. Using wireless microphones and the mall’s PA system, both their voices and the music was amplified throughout the food court. All cameras were hidden behind two-way mirrors and other concealed structures.

Found on YouTube; From Improv Everywhere, a little league baseball game is turned into a major league event. All players, coaches, and parents do not know what is happening. We worked with the league commissioner to get the kids’ names and access to the field to setup our equipment the morning of the game. He was the only one in on it. NBC Sports worked with us and got us the jumbotron and the blimp.

I thought I’d try out some new paper tonight and see how the markers looked on it. I didn’t plan out this sketch at all, I just did it.

The audio is done, mostly.
So here’s a little hint, the story is about clones. I figured that this would work to my advantage because I could do all of the voice work. I’ve tried to do a New Zealand accent and it didn’t work so it is what it is. I haven’t done any recording at my house before, so this is a big experiment for me. I just plugged my video camera into the computer and captured the audio with the camera’s mic. We’ll see how it turns out.

One of the best things about having kids is that I get to buy the toys that I want. I even let them play with them!

…should I stay or should I go?

There’s a lot of variables here. I just got an invitation from Lucasfilm to make a poster for the Star Wars Celebration Japan. I’m not the only artist they’ve asked. They’re putting together a whole art show. So, I have to submit artwork by May 30th for approval. IF the artwork is approved (IF) then I will be allowed (at my own expense) to print up to 250 posters to sell in Japan. I have to be present at the convention to sell the posters. I also have to pay around $300.00 to have an exhibitors table at the convention. Then there’s the cost of hotel, food, and Airlines, not to mention that I have to get all those posters over there. WOW!
So I figure that it could cost me north of $3000.00 in expenses for the adventure. 250 posters at $25-35.00 (minus the 12% licensing fees) means that I would have to nearly sell out to break even. Hmmmm…. This is my first convention as an exhibitor, what are the chances of me selling out? I do speak Japanese. Maybe I could just work the crowd and they would buy some stuff because I’m so charming?
Maybe I ought to start looking for a sponsor?
