Po-ta-to Po-tah-to
So, it’s 4AM local time. I leave the Chennai airport and head toward the gate for Coimbatore. I felt like Tom Hanks in “The Terminal”. I was standing in line to go through customs and the whole place was under construction. At one point I was standing on a tape stretched across the floor that said, “Danger! Do not Enter”. I was going to take some photos, but I didn’t want to draw any attention to myself. The guards at the doors had some pretty scary looking guns. ACTUALLY, I recognized one of the guns as the type that was used as the base for the construction of the Stormtrooper guns in Star Wars. (I didn’t really want to think about those things being functional.)
I have EIGHT hours before my flight leaves. Before I left on this trip, Richard at work had told me that alot of guys would try and help push my bags around for me so that they could earn a tip. I turned them all down. Then this one guy in a blue blazer came up and started talking to me. He said that he was an airport representative and that he could help me out. So he said he could get me a cab that would take me to a hotel with a bed and shower and tv and that it would only cost 600 rupees. That sounded good to me.
Ummm, wow! Hotel? Shower? Not quite what I expected.
This is SOME of the rubbish in the area of the “Hotel”.
I stood in the doorway so that I could try and get a shot of the WHOLE room.
Again, I couldn’t take it all in. There is actually a shower head, but it just didn’t make it in the shot.
I did get to shave. That made me seem a bit more presentable.

Did you fit in the bed or did you hang over the end? I’m glad to see that your hippie necklace made it through customs! Nancy
I fit, but is wasn’t very comfortable. It was so humid, and I went with the cheap room that without a/c. I’m a little surprised that I was actually able to get some sleep in there.
